B-R Baseball Wins First Game For New Head Coach

New head coach Mike Connolly and the Bridgewater-Raynham baseball team got off on the right foot, as the Trojans kicked off their 2022 campaign with a tight 2-1 road victory over Whitman-Hanson.

Cam Morrison provided the offense for B-R. The junior catcher went 3-for-4 and knocked in both of the Trojans’ runs, including a homer. Junior pitcher Luke Barry picked up the win, allowing just the one run over 5 2/3 innings.

Dartmouth Softball Opens Season With Big Win Over Stang

The Dartmouth softball team opened it 2022 campaign in impressive fashion, dominating cross-town foe Bishop Stang, 13-2. Katherine Lancaster had three hits and two RBI to pace the Indians’ attack. Desirae Paiva and Hannah Garcia both added a pair of hits, including a homer each for Dartmouth. Pitcher Megan Arruda picked up the win, yielding just four hits, while striking out four.

Durfee Softball Opens Season With Impressive Win Over Connolly

The Durfee High softball team turned in an outstanding performance to open its 2022 season, as the Hilltoppers dominated visiting Bishop Connolly, 6-1 at the Matthew Kuss Middle School field.

Sadie Fitzgerald put Durfee ahead, 2-0 with a pair of RBI in the second inning. Freshman Rachael Silva then beat out an infield hit to knock in a runner from third and put the Toppers up, 3-0.

The big blow of the game though was freshman first baseman Katerina Rumsey’s bases loaded line shot blast over the right fielder’s head that cleared the bases and put Durfee up, 6-0. The Cougars added a run in the later innings that were affected by some rain showers and wind.

Brooke Silvia got the start for Durfee. She pitched three scoreless innings before giving way to Emily Curran. Silvia also came back to close out the game in the seventh.

New Bedford Takes Softball Opener 13-3

The New Bedford High bats were on fire in the Whalers’ season opening 13-3 victory over Bishop Stang. Hayleigh Chenard paced the New Bedford attack, going 4-for-5, with a homer and two RBI. The Whalers also got homers from Amelia Davis (3-5, three RBI) and Sydnee Ramos (3-5, 2 RBI). Pitcher Lilly Gray picked up the win, striking out 15 batters in the contest.
