Durfee Tennis Takes Two From Brockton

A day after Brockton track and field swept Durfee, the Hilltoppers’ boys and girls tennis squads returned the favor against their Southeast Conference foe, winning both matches against the Boxers. Both the Durfee boys and girls teams won their matches handily, as both won by 4-1 scores.

With the win, the Durfee boys improve to 9-3 overall and sit in second place in the SEC with a 3-1 mark. Brockton meanwhile, is 0-5 overall and 0-4 in league play. The Hilltopper girls are now 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The Boxers fall to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the SEC.

In the boys action, Durfee’s first singles player, Jorge Beltran cruised in the first set 6-1 but needed to win a 7-5 tie-breaker to defeat Christian Wahnon in the second set, 7-6. At second singles, Durfee’s Chris Panchley won easily against Joel Nunoo, 6-1, 6-0. Hilltopper Will Rumsey then had an even easier time at third singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 to sweep the singles matches for Durfee.

Brockton picked up its lone point at first doubles. There, the duo of Stevenson Exantus and Fedson Exantus defeated Durfee’s Jack Fitzgerald and Murali Mahaseth in a hard-fought match, prevailing 2-6, 6-1, 10-6. Hilltoppers Jesse Tamba and Colin Fleet then took the second doubles match, defeating Ren Long and Nick White 6-0, 6-2

In the girls match, Durfee’s Dalia Karam dominated at first singles, knocking off Milani Depina 6-2, 6-0. Liv Rumsey then won for the Toppers at second singles, posting a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ahunna Okreke. Morgan Ledo then completed the singles sweep for Durfee by winning 6-2, 6-4 over Brockton’s Christelle Jean-Baptiste.

At first doubles, Durfee’s Tabicas twins, Madi and Brooke were victorious against Renece Vernon and Nedjy Joseph, 6-3, 6-4. Brockton earned its point at second doubles. There, Jessica Le and Priscilla Barros knocked off Gabby Farias and Sydney Duong 6-1, 6-3.

Bridgewater-Raynham Tennis Sweeps Brockton

The Bridgewater-Raynham tennis teams took care of business against Southeast Conference foe Brockton, winning both the boys and girls matches. The Trojan boys prevailed by a slim, 3-2 margin, while the Lady Trojans blacked the Boxers, 5-0.

With the win, the B-R boys even their league mark at 1-1 heading into their match against New Bedford, which is also 1-1 in SEC action. Brockton falls to 0-2 in the conference. The Lady Trojans meanwhile, are tied with Dartmouth atop the SEC standings with a 2-0 mark. Brockton drops to 1-1.

In the boys match, Brockton took first single in a hard-fought battle. Christian Wahnon emerged victorious over Kiefer Jule 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. The Trojans won relatively easily at second and third singles. Logan Thomas bested Clifford James 6-1, 6-0 and after a tight first set, Michael Harrington prevailed over Ren Long 6-4, 6-1.

In the doubles action, Brockton’s first doubles duo Stevenson Exantus and Fedson Exantus won a tight battle against B-R’s Tommy Hammond and Ryan Levine 6-4, 6-4. Second dubles went to B-R, as Cooper Hammond and Anthony Farraz cruised against Jahir Tineo and Joel Nunoo 6-2, 6-0.

In the girls match, B-R’s Nicole Kimball was outstanding at first singles, winning over Milani Depina 6-0, 6-0. Lily Balutis was also very strong at second singles, defeating Renece Vernon 6-0, 6-2. Ellie Balutis completed the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ahunna Okreke.

In doubles action, Brockton’s first doubles duo of Christelle Jean- Baptiste and Samantha Blanchard put up a fight against Annalies Colwell and Marlena Colwell, losing 6-2, 6-4. The Lady Trojans’ second doubles team of Smitty Sriram and Eily Mitchell completed the shutout with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alexandria Johnson and Priscilla Barros.

Durfee Tennis Teams Sweep New Bedford

Both the boys and girls Durfee High tennis teams took care of business against Southeast Conference rival New Bedford High. The Hilltopper boys cruised to a 5-0 victory, whie the Durfee girls slipped past the Whalers, 3-2. With the win, the Durfee boys improved to 5-1 overall. It was the conference opener for both. The Hilltopper girls meanwhile, evened their season mark at 3-3 overall.

In the boys’ action, Durfee won all of the matches in straight sets. Jorge Beltran, Chris Panchley and Will Rumsey won at first through third singles respectively. In doubles, Jack Fitzgerald and Crispin Sokol took the first doubles match, 6-0, 6-0. At second doubles, the team of Jesse Tamba and Colin Fleet were victorious by scores of 6-2, 6-1.

In the girls’ match, Durfee won at third singles and took both doubles matches to prevail. Morgan Ledo won at third singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Hilltoppers Brooke Tabicas and Sydnie Duong won at first doubles, 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-3. Madison Tabicas and Gabby Farias won in straight sets in their second doubles match, 6-1, 6-3.

Durfee Girls Tennis Drops Close One To Taunton

The Taunton High girls tennis team pulled out a tight, 3-2 victory over Durfee High.

Winners for Durfee were freshman Liv Rumsey at second singles and Morgan Ledo at third singles. Rumsey posted a terrific comeback. After dropping a close first set 6-7 with a 5-7 tiebreaker, she came back to take the next two sets, 6-2. Ledo also dropped the first set in a tie-breaker in a 5-7 tie-breaker but responded by taking the second set, 6-1 and winning the match with a 6-4 third set win.
